As part of our unit of work on Judaism, Ann Edwards were lucky enough to be visited by Rabbi Zvi. As well as sharing a whole school assembly, Year 5 and 6 were able to engage in focused workshops about the Torah and the Synagogue. The Y5/6 children set up the hall to reflect how a Synagogue would look. Men and women sit separately, and males cover their heads. We also learnt that the Torah Scroll must be written by a specially trained scribe called a Sofer and it takes about a year to write an entire Torah Scroll. As the Sofer writes by hand with a quill, any single missing letter or mistake invalidates the entire Torah. Sycamore Class thoroughly enjoyed their workshop with Rabbi Zvi and got the opportunity to ask lots of questions.
