The week beginning March 13th was Science week. We participated in a variety of investigations and we were lucky enough to attend a DNA and Bloodhound workshop.
We have been focussing on reflection and light. A periscope uses mirrors to reflect the light from the object around the corner and into the eye. The two mirrors bounce reflections of light between them. We got to make our own periscopes and knelt behind our chair to spy on people around the room.
We were investigating how humans and animals see in the dark. It is only possible for them to see if there is a light source. We were using the bear cave to see what we could see in different conditions. We looked into the cave with no light, then with the window open and finally using a tea light to provide a light source.
Finally, we carried out an investigation to observe and record how a light source affects a shadow.
We have been working scientifically by…
- Asking relevant questions and using different types of scientific enquiries to answer them.
- Making careful observations
- Recording findings using simple scientific language, drawings, labelled diagrams, keys, bar charts, and tables.
- Reporting on findings from enquiries.
