In Science we have been learning about pitch. We explore a range of woodwind, percussion and string instruments to see how to change the pitch. Mrs Jones showed us the different strings that are within a piano and how they differ in length to produce the different pitched notes. In order to change the pitch on an instrument so it is higher you need to either shorten the string on a guitar, tighten the skin on a drum, play the smaller bar on a xylophone or allow less air to travel through a recorder. To make the pitch lower you need to lengthen the string on a guitar, loosen the skin on a drum, play the longer bar on a xylophone or allow lots of air to travel through the recorder.
