Sports Hall Athletics Y5/Y6

Sports Hall Athletics Year 5 and 6 On Tuesday 10th November 18 year 5 and 6 girls and boys travelled to Kingshill Secondary School. With spirits high the team travelled with confidence of gaining a place in the network final. The event consisted of 6 field events and 6 track events. The children were allocated 2 or 3 field events each and participated against 4 other local schools. With the round robin of events happening the children were growing with confidence in the loud sports hall. Competing in chest push, long jump, triple jump, vertical jump and soft javelin the children were showing the best Ann Edwards could give. After the field events had finished we had successfully won four of the events and finishing with solid positions for the boys. The girls also excelled in their performances finishing with solid positions in 5 events and winning 1. We proceeded in the second half of the event in good spirits ready to show our hand in the running races. The first races were the obstacle and up and over race, girls and boys competing in all the races separately. We got off to a flying start and finished very strongly in both the girls and boys race. Bea was a rocket out of the gates in her two races giving us a very healthy lead when it came to the baton change over. The boys followed suit in their races finishing very strongly. It came to the final race (which was for fun), to which Mr Thomas told us it was still competitive. We definitely like his competitive attitude. We had to allocate 2 girls and 2 boys to this race. It was neck and neck going into the final baton change over, with Ollie taking the baton in first place. With sheer determination on his face he crossed the finish line in first place. Much to the relief of Mr Thomas. When the results were read out we had successfully qualified for the network final in January. Sophie Izon and Ryan Outram
